Telling Stories To Groups Of Children Can Be Scary! Secrets Of Successful Story-telling Revealed Stories To Tell.
Sometimes a favourite story from a book meets the bill, but sometimes your child will demand a "real" story "not out of a book" or they might say "tell me about when you were little."
Where do you start? How do you know your story will be interesting and fun?
You may be a nursery or kindergarten teacher, or perhaps be involved with a Playgroup, Bible or other Faith School. Maybe you want some quality personal time with your own children or grandchildren. It's a rainy afternoon and you're faced with little expectant faces waiting to be entertained. How do you keep them all enthralled by your tale?
I've been there and I know how hard it can be! That's why I'm offering you
"How to tell Stories to Children"
Imagine those little faces turned up to you, totally absorbed in your story and hanging on your every word. Hear the laughter when you tell a joke, and the gasps when your hero is in danger!
This isn't just fantasy - it will happen if you follow the easy step-by-step guide within "How to Tell Stories to Children!"
I always used to be nervous about story-telling, and to hide my fears and uncertainties by reading directly from a book, just looking up at the kids every so often. This meant I wasn't communicating directly with the kids, they weren't empathising with the characters in the story, and none of us were really satisfied by the experience.
So at last I went to talk to my Mom, who had been a popular and well-loved kindergarten teacher for more than 30 years, and asked her for help. Mom, bless her, didn't make me feel stupid, and explained that when she was a young teacher at the start of her career she used to feel much the same way.
One day, a much older teacher seeing her struggle, gave her an old, tattered book that she herself had used way back in the early part of last century! Mom read this book carefully. It took her a long time as it was written in old-fashioned language and falling to pieces. But, she told me, it was worth the effort, the practical instructions it contained were worth their weight in gold. After she'd put the book's instructions into practice she never looked back and her story-telling sessions became fun for all concerned.
Mom gave me that book, together with her own secrets for successful story-telling.
And they really do work!
It seemed selfish to keep them to myself, so now I'm offering them to you!
